1: Danxia Mountain in Renhua
Danxia (Red Cloud) Mountain is located in Renhua County, Guangdong,
which borders Hunan and Jiangxi provinces. The mountain, 45 km from Shaoguan,
a major city in northern Guangdong, is a national nature reserve for geology
and geography. It is also known as China Red Stone Park.
The whole mountain covering an area of 280 km2 is formed with red sandstone.
The mountain's name has been recognized internationally as the term for this
special landform.
Stop 2: Shikengkong on the Provincial Border
Shikengkong, 1,902 meters above sea level, is the highest peak in Guangdong.
It has been developed into the Nanling National Forest Park, but is called Mangshan
Peak on the Hunan side. Within the scenic area of 15,000 ha, there are more
than 30 peaks of 1,000 m above sea level or higher. A relatively unknown mountain,
Shikengkong is even not marked on the map. It draws attention from travellers
because of its location on the border of Guangdong and Hunan provinces, linking
three counties - Yangshan and Ruyuan in Guangdong, and Yizhang in Hunan.

Special characters: This is a route for photographers. North Guangdong abounds
with beautiful landscapes and picturesque rural scenes. But the attractions
can be difficult to appreciate in the hot summer when temperatures reach 39C.
Roads: The main roads are good, but some of the old state highways, such as
No. 107, need repair.
