1: Yamen
The Yamen Battery is located on the east bank of Yamenkou in Xinhui, Guangdong
Province. In 1279, during the Southern Song Dynasty, the emperor built more
than 3,000 military camps here to station over 200,000 soldiers. In February
that year, the Song army fought the Yuan forces on Yinzhou lake. The Yuan soldiers
occupied the surrounding areas and cut off the supply line of the Song army
stationed on Yashan Hill. The Song army was soon defeated and the young emperor
Zhao Bing killed himself at the foot of the hill. The Song Dynasty thus ended
its rule.
