City Snaps
Shichahai -- New Beijing in the Heart of the Old City

------The weight of history accumulated over time has offset the image of the modern city that Beijing has become. In reality, one needs time and energy to disillusion a city, just as one does with a person.

------Shichahai is a peaceful community in the increasingly modernized metropolis of Beijing. On a sunny afternoon, you can go to Shichahai from any place, Deshengmen or Di'anmen. Roaming about the labyrinth of lanes, you might hardly imagine that this place is used to be festooned with temples.
------Grey courtyard walls, lush and green willow trees, quiet water.... All these display the charm of this city. Occasionally you may come across with fashionably dressed young people, humming a pop tune while riding a bicycle. You may also bump into some of the old Beijing natives who eat hand-made noodles, listen to stories in their Beijing dialect accompanied by drums, wear traditional-style shoes and collarless shirts. It's the people that make Beijing so fascinating.
