[Feature Story] Lhasa’s Romance

Lhasa is known as the City of Sunshine and the Sacred Snowland. For the Tibetans, it is a mecca for their once-in-a-lifetime pilgrimage. For me, however, it is a place of romance. It has been witness to many well-known love stories in history — the most famous being the marriage between Tang Dynasty Princess Wencheng and Songtsan Gambo (605-650 CE) 1,300 years ago, and the love poems of Tsangyang Gyatso (1683-1706), the Sixth Dalai Lama. Unlike Lijiang, Lhasa’s romantic ambience is not tailored to entertain tourists. In this issue, we will recall the epic love between Princess Wencheng and Songtsan Gambo by tracing the historical sites in Lhasa. Love Code True love has no price and no one can have a winning formula. But Lhasa, as a city of legendary romances, has its own love code, which might open your eyes to the nature of love.
