[Feature Story] Vanishing Tribes along the China-Russia Border

The drainage areas of the Argun River and the Heilong River along the China-Russia border in the northeast was the cradle of northern tribes since antiquity. the Donghus, Xianbeis, Mongols, Khitans, Jurchens and other tribes all shared the same origin: the Greater Xing'an Mountains. In time, some of them grew strong and trotted south to rule Central china. Yet their Descendents -- the Ewenkis, Oroqens, Hezhens and Russians -- are now ethnic minorities of a small population in China.
